Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang
The preview shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is what the sheriff is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
